Meeting Minutes February 16, 2013

EAA Chapter 1167

New Business:

• Sarah opened the meeting welcoming everyone.

• Discussed dropping the April BBQ event.

  • There is very little time and no support from the airport residents for the event this year.

  • The Corvette club and the Hot Rod club are still interested in participating with the chapter.

  • There is discussion of getting a local church group to do the cooking.

  • Sarah believes she can get some of her fellow students from school to come out to help which will fulfill their public service requirement.

  • Vote passed with no objection to put all efforts into the November Fly-in.

• Visitor William Schertz provided us with a presentation of his KIS (Keep It Simple) Cruiser build.

  • Mazda Rotary engine installation and development challenges

  • Basic construction techniques needed for the airplane (wing construction in a form)

  • Tracy Crook at http://www.rotaryaviation.com/ offers some EFI and other products to support such builds.

  • With the water cooling and other peripherals the weight is estimated as the same as a Lycoming installation.

• Scott Morrow suggests we participate with the Palmetto Charter School to raise money (pursue corporate sponsors) and provide technical support for the At-Risk kids to build an airplane (Sonex).

  • Scott will work up some plugging points and report back.

Following the regular meeting, a special business meeting was formed to address an EAA rules change impacting the Chapter.

• EAA rules now require all chapter officers be at least 18 years of age, unfortunately, Sarah is not currently eligible to serve as our Chapter President.

  • Having the required quorum, a vote was called and Doug Floyd was unanimously voted in as President.

  • Sarah will have several of the Presidential duties delgated to her as she continues to offer her youthful insight and energy to the chapter.
